Who we are
The Johnny Agim, SAN Foundation [hereinafter the “JASAN Foundation” / “the Foundation] was officially registered on the 10th day of July 2024 as an Incorporated Trustee Organisation with Registration Number: 7680882 under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. JASAN Foundation is an independent, non-governmental organisation founded by the Learned Silk, Mr. Johnny U. Agim, SAN, a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria to help address the myriad of challenges facing young lawyers, the legal education, the legal profession and the administration of justice sector, as well as contribute to the development of law in Nigeria.
Set up primarily to foster mentoring and legal education sponsorships for young lawyers from year 0 to 10 years post Call-to-Bar legal experience, the Foundation has its keen sights on promoting excellence for lawyers and collaborates with the respective statutory bodies that regulate the legal profession and legal education in Nigeria, including without limitation the following:
- .The Faculties of Law in the Federal and State universities across the Federation,
- The Council of Legal Education (CLE) / Nigerian Law School (NLS),
- The Body of Benchers (BoB),
- The General Council of the Bar (GCB),
- The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA),
- The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC),
- The Legal Practitioners Remuneration Committee (LPRC),
- The National Judicial Council (NJC), and
- The National Judicial Institute (NJI).
Collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is central to the Foundation’s programmes. As the only statutorily recognised professional body representing all lawyers admitted to the Nigerian Bar, the NBA plays a pivotal role in the regulation, coordination, and advancement of the legal profession across the country. It is a member of all key statutory bodies that govern the Bar and the Bench—including the Body of Benchers (BoB) and the National Judicial Council (NJC)—and remains Africa’s most influential network of legal practitioners.
The JASAN Foundation actively partners with the NBA to drive its mission of institutionalising mentorship, strengthening legal education, and advancing reforms within the legal and justice sectors. The NBA serves not only as a strategic ally but also as a critical resource pipeline, enabling the Foundation to engage directly with legal professionals across all levels of practice.
In alignment with this partnership, the Foundation continues to build a robust legal institution anchored on its thematic pillars: human, corporate, judicial, and governance institutions. Through these focus areas, the JASAN Foundation promotes a culture of excellence and service leadership—nurturing a citizenry grounded in transgenerational legacy-building and committed to the sustainable development of Nigeria’s legal system.
